CNC Punching
Depending on batch size and the complexity of your parts, CNC punching can be a cheaper profiling solution than laser cutting.
CNC punching offers rapid processing speeds and lower operating costs, and our CNC punching machines can also generate simple formed features - dimples, louvres, logo indentations and knock-outs - thus avoiding the need for additional operations.
Our CNC punching system, the Trumpf TruPunch 2020 Sheetmaster, is capable of punching materials up to 6mm in thickness, and can work with sheet sizes up to 2.5 x 1.25 metres without repositioning. A wide range of materials can be CNC punched, including stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium, brass, copper and plastics.
Computer-assisted part nesting allows maximum material utilisation and parts yield, lowering unit costs.
An automated sheet-feeding system, parts picker and scrap-offloading systems are also available for low-cost "lights out" running.
What is CNC punching?
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) punching is a manufacturing process that utilises a computer program (called the CNC Program) fed into a CNC punching press, like our Trumpf TruPunch 2020 at our Telford site.
This program tells the system how to position a sheet of material, to very precise tolerances, under the machine's punching ram. The machine then punches a hole (which could be anything from a simple geometric shape to an entirely custom design) at that position, and then moves the sheet to the next position.
